Politics of Outrage

Colin Kapernick is out of work. That may have something to do with his attitude toward the NFL, white people, police, and the national anthem. In this free nation, Kapernick has an absolute right to voice his opinion on these issues. And NFL teams have every right to decline hiring him. All conservatives I’ve encountered agree on both those points. But countless voices on the left—from ESPN to Spike Lee—believe that Kapernick is a victim of racism because his free speech is not indemnified from consequences. Google engineer James Damore is out of work. That may have something to do with his attitude toward Google and their racist diversity policies. In this free nation, Damore has an absolute right to voice his opinion on these issues. And Google has every right to decline his employment. But the same Progressives who ape this logic when dealing with Damore are the very same liberal hypocrites fighting the NFL over Kapernick’s situation. This is not simple ignorance; it is calculated venality.
