Christian School Ordered to Stop Teaching “Offensive” Bible

Apparently, anti-Christian bigots on the local school board do not believe Christians should have freedom of speech or of religion. And the trend is spreading across Canada and the post-Christian West.
The troubles formally began when the K-12 school in question, based in Alberta province and known as
Cornerstone Christian Academy (CCA), published a number of Bible Scriptures in its school handbook and its statement of faith.
Among the supposedly illegal verses was Corinthians 6:9-10. It reads: “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”
In a letter to the Christian school's leadership by local school board chair Laurie Skori, the school was informed that “any scripture that could be considered offensive to particular individuals should not be read or studied in school.”
Of course, any scripture might be considered offensive by somebody — offense is a subjective feeling, and plenty of people are offended by Truth itself. To clarify, school authorities sent a follow-up letter pointing in particular to “any teachings that denigrate or vilify someone’s sexual orientation.”
As the story became international news, the school board dispatched a spokesperson to defend its attack on the Bible and fundamental human rights. “As a school system, we have an obligation: we need to follow the School Act and human rights legislation,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying. “As a public school division, we have that obligation and it is our obligation to ensure that our schools are also compliant.”
The news comes shortly after the province of Ontario passed a statute purporting to authorize the kidnapping of children by the state if Christian parents reject gender confusion in their children. Studies have shown that the overwhelming majority of children with gender confusion get over their confusion without issue — unless parents and authority figures encourage their confusion.
Of course, Canada is hardly alone. Across Europe, Christians and even pastors are being thrown in jail merely for expressing biblical views on homosexuality and gender confusion. In Sweden, authorities actually determined that the Bible itself was in violation of its “hate speech” laws. And the emerging trend of government persecution of Christianity in the West is likely to accelerate.
The whole incident highlights the extreme danger of allowing schools, churches, or ministries to link arms with government. This Canadian school formally got in bed with authorities in 2009 by accepting tax funds. And now, the trap has sprung shut, giving authorities a pretext to attack Truth, religious liberty, free speech, and the Bible. Americans should take note.
