Ocasio-Cortez Pushes Social Media On Path To Presidency
Published : January 30, 2019
That means Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will come out with even more ridiculous ideas than she has to date. And while there have been calls to mitigate the reporting on her, being she is a freshman in the House of Representatives, which implies a mere amount of influence in the halls of Congress, there is a present force demonstrating her effect is much higher.
A SurveyMonkey/Axios poll conducted from Jan. 16-18 shows that 74 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning adults would vote for Ocasio-Cortez in a future presidential bid. Being that she is 29 years old, she will become eligible for the 2024 presidential election. Within the same poll, 61 percent of Generation Z and those 18-24 years of age had a positive reaction to the term “socialism,” beating out 58 percent who were positive for the term “capitalism.” Compared to the other generations, this is the first to have higher positivity toward socialism than capitalism.
And that is precisely why it is important to inform the public of what Ocasio-Cortez is doing and saying. Her audience, comprised of the youngest voters and most permeable minds, consists of more than 2 million followers on each platform of Twitter and Instagram. It is on-the-line, nestled within her safe space, while eating her ice cream after a day’s work, where she explains in detail her ideas. It is there where it becomes quickly apparent that she does not have solid footing for facts, only her feelings.
Even Piers Morgan can see the detriment that is possible in the words from Ocasio-Cortez, or as he calls her “Annoying Overhyped Charlatan.” Morgan’s blistering op-ed in the Daily Mail is not only accurate to how she portrays herself, it highlights the danger of what she could become.
Based on the social media posts by Ocasio-Cortez, there are a few things learned. She acts as a freshman…in college. She posts Instagram photos and videos related to the Post-Its of catchphrases and “Lead with love.” She also gets the munchies late at night while in Washington, D.C. and wants everyone to know. The newest hype is her “lounge uniform,” which she believes everyone should obtain.
But the real issue is that she has provided more in-depth explanation and sound advice about her skincare routine than she has to her Green New Deal, which she demands must be passed now because climate change is the most important crisis for the world.
"Millennials and Gen Z and all these folks that come after us are looking up, and we're like, 'The world is going to end in 12 years if we don't address climate change, and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?' And, like, this is our World War II,” she said during an interview with writer Ta-Nehisi Coates at a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event in New York City.
Ocasio-Cortez is a proud full-fledged socialist activist, fighting for the causes she believes to be her truth. In looking at her social media posts, it is clear she does not understand governmental structure, her job duties as a representative, and the demand of being a representative for anyone outside of her bubble.
It is dangerous how people are responding to what she is saying, despite the many inaccuracies and how they view her as a civics teacher. Meanwhile, her agenda is equality through forced redistribution. She posts about how rough it is to be young, female, and ethnically a minority, in hopes that saying “screw the man” will bring with it voters for her beliefs. But she is a representative in the United States Congress. Life for her is not the same as it is for the rest of us, but she wants you to believe she is your “sister,” “friend,” and “comrade.”
To cite Ocasio-Cortez’s bungles and blasphemes would take many more column inches. Just know this: She is an adult who acts as if she is a teenager, and being that teenager, she acts as if she is an adult. She is just as confused as those who support her. But it is absolutely necessary to continue refuting her on the facts, because that is where she gets lost most. That is where the truth lies, and that is where the hope is that she will not become president, ever.
